Not much of a garden…
Never seem to get a lot.
10 points to whoever knows what song I altered! Stephen and I used to make up funny versions of this song all the time. Obviously we still get a kick out of it.
We planted our garden in February, and at the time I took these pictures (at least a month ago) we were only getting carrots, and green onions. Now we’re getting a whole heck of a lot more!
These are the roses my mom wanted. They change color as they age! Super cool.
Oh yeah, we were getting zucchini too. And still are. I’ve made tons of zucchini bread and I’m gonna make zucchini cobbler too.
Here’s one of our garden boxes. You can see the corn near the top of the picture (it’s taller than our fence now!) We had to cage it up with string because of the heavy wind we’ve had recently. You can also see our green onions, carrots and yellow squash.

(L-R) We’ve got corn, our spinach (which was eaten by something) and the peas. Ooh, I forgot to mention that everything grown in this box was done from seed!
On it’s own is the artichoke plant…in three years we’ll have one!
These are my herbs. From bottom to top is the rosemary, oregano, basil and behind the basil is the sage. Oh yeah, there are corn leaves at the top.
The second garden box, with our composter in the back. We bought most of these when they were little. The zucchini is up front and the tomatoes are towards the back.
Our strawberry plant. Unfortunately the strawberries are being eaten birds and we have to keep whacking back the zucchini which wants to grow over it.
My cucumbers which have yet to produce any. Bummer.
The sweet peppers which were from seed. They are still tiny and are finally flowering.
Our red-leaf lettuce (we had green-leaf too) but they were bitter, so we threw them out.
Jelly-bean tomatoes. And now they’re ready!
Lesson-learned: don’t put the yellow squash next to the zucchini or this is what you get. You should have seen the yellow squash! They were half-green! Too funny.
Camera shy: mint, big boy tomato, marigolds, cilantro, swiss chard, bush beans, partially dying grape plants, and a patio tomato plant.
I am so glad we used the garden as a learning tool and not as a matter of survival. We’ve learned so much from it. I’m soo excited for next year! One day I’ll write down all we’ve learned and show all the fun things Stephen knows what to do with the garden.

The song is "Take a look at my girlfriend" but I don't know who it's by.
Keep an eye on your rosemary. Eventually it will look like it has webbing in it...which are created by tiny bugs (not sure what they are called) that will kill your plant if you don't keep on top of them. With my plant I use to spray it with water with a tiny bit of dish soap in it. If you let it go too long with the bugs like I did the last time, it will die. :( The same thing invaded my oregano and eventually killed it too. Though not before it put out seeds. I have two new plants that came up this spring after more than a year of no oregano. Cool Huh!
I have to say I am jealous of how big your plants have grown. Mine are still much smaller. Must be all the nice potting soil and the raised beds with nice loose soil. It made me get my act in gear to put out my drip system. I also had to wait for my winter crop to finish before I could plant my spring stuff.
Don't worry so much about your strawberry, the other plant won't kill it off. As for the birds...you can try covering the strawberry plant with something like cheese cloth. I found that I get more strawberries in the spring than I do in the summer anyhow.
Next year you should add some more beds.....there is so much room for them. That has me jealous as well. Oh what I would do with Mom's backyard.......

And Kat, the the zucchini is just blocking the sun from the strawberry, so the strawberry started growing upwards to find sun. We just keep the zucchini trimmed back and it stays low that way. Thanks for the tips on the rosemary, I'll be watching for it.
OK I was gone when this contest was going on, so that seems a little unfair. I knew that song! "Take a look at my Girlfriend, she's the only one I got!" Gym Class Heroes! I love it!
Do you think the plants could be any smaller, or produce less? Ha, yours looks sad next to mine....
Ok, so I'm jealous! ;) Thanks for sharing all your produce every week with me. You know I'll keep coming back every week for it! Maybe your garden could teach my garden how to grow, oh and produce. Ya, that would be nice.
Truly I love your garden! I tell lots of people about it, too! Can you tell I just love a great garden?!
